While the PPTA uses the AIM syllabus as its basis for establishing requirements, there are a few differences.  Unlike the AIM program, for the STAR program...

Differences between STAR & AIM

  1. Copies will be accepted for any music.

  2. Only ONE piece must be from the repertoire list for all levels.

  3. Pieces are NOT required to be memorized.  Instead, one bonus point for memorized pieces at all levels.

  4. Levels 2, 3, 4, 5:   Same as instructions in AIM syllabus, but only one piece must be from repertoire list.  The other piece(s) should be at an equivalent level.

  5. Levels 6, 7, 8, 9:   All musical periods (Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modern) must be represented over the course of levels 6, 7, 8, 9.  Three musical periods must be represented at each level.  Only one piece must be from the repertoire list.  Other performed pieces should be at an equivalent level.

  6. Levels 10, 11, 12:    Three different musical periods must be represented at each level.  Only one piece must be from the repertoire list.  Other performed pieces should be at an equivalent level.
